A major Soviet aircraft manufacturing complex located in Irkutsk, responsible for producing a wide range of military aircraft for the Soviet Air Forces during the Cold War. Established in the 1930s and later known internationally as the Irkutsk Aviation Plant, the facility became one of the Soviet Union’s key centres for serial aircraft production, translating experimental and bureau-designed aircraft into operational fleets.

In Cold War context, the factory formed part of the Soviet military–industrial system in which aircraft were designed by specialist design bureaus (OKBs) and then manufactured at large state-run industrial plants. Irkutsk produced aircraft designed by organisations including Mikoyan and Sukhoi, contributing to Soviet tactical and strategic air power.

The facility is particularly associated with production of aircraft such as the Yakovlev Yak-28 and later generations of combat aircraft. In historical documents, references to the “Irkutsk Aviation Industrial Association factory” generally indicate the manufacturing plant itself rather than a design authority, highlighting where an aircraft was physically built rather than conceived.
