EPAWSS (Eagle Passive Active Warning Survivability System) – An advanced integrated electronic warfare and threat warning system developed by BAE Systems for the Boeing F-15E Strike Eagle and F-15EX Eagle II, replacing the older Tactical Electronic Warfare System (TEWS). EPAWSS provides comprehensive situational awareness, radar warning, geolocation of threats, and electronic countermeasures to protect the aircraft from surface-to-air missiles, air-to-air missiles, and enemy fighter radars in contested environments. The system combines passive radio frequency sensors that detect and identify threat emissions with active electronic attack capabilities that jam enemy radars and disrupt missile guidance systems. EPAWSS features digital signal processing, improved threat detection range, enhanced jamming power, and the ability to counter modern advanced threats including low probability of intercept radars and sophisticated integrated air defense systems. The fully integrated system reduces pilot workload through automated threat response capabilities while providing real-time threat data through cockpit displays and data links to other aircraft. EPAWSS began fielding to operational F-15E squadrons in the early 2020s and is standard equipment on the F-15EX, significantly enhancing the survivability and combat effectiveness of Eagle variants in high-threat environments dominated by advanced air defenses.
