AMRAAM (Advanced Medium-Range Air-to-Air Missile) – A radar-guided, beyond-visual-range air-to-air missile developed by Raytheon for the United States Air Force and Navy. The AIM-120 AMRAAM is designed to engage enemy aircraft at medium to long ranges and features active radar homing, allowing the launching aircraft to maneuver away after launch (“fire-and-forget” capability). It has become the primary air-to-air missile for U.S. and allied fighters since entering service in 1991, with successive variants (AIM-120A through AIM-120D) offering improved range, guidance, and resistance to countermeasures. The missile is compatible with numerous aircraft platforms including the F-15, F-16, F/A-18, and F-22, and has been widely exported to NATONATO (North Atlantic Treaty Organization) – A collective defense alliance established by the North Atlantic Treaty signed on April 4, 1949, initially ...
